My Day at the Rachael Ray Show

I was lucky enough to visit the Rachael Ray show last week with my two niece in laws, Ellie and Rachael. Lucky for two reasons. First, we got tickets and Second, it was the week sandwiched between the coldest Tuesday and the snowiest one.
As we waited on line we talked about what the show would be about and chatted with others on the line about the show and how we hoped we would get in soon.

Then Rachael came on to tell us that we were having a special guest today and gave us some hints but no one could quite figure it out. The show was about to start and for those of you who have never seen the show, Rachael comes down in an elevator either by herself or with the guest, in this case it was with the guest. As the elevator started down we saw the person was tall, blonde and was dressed causally, not until the doors opened that we realized it was Cameron Diaz.

I have to say that she looks great in person and is a really down to earth woman. She chatted with Rachael regarding her new book entitled “The Body”, she talked about how she sat around the table and wrote with the help of a writer about these issues. The theme of the book is that we may not all get the body that Cameron has but we need to take of the best body that we have. She stated “The only way you can know that body is by taking care of it properly. If you are eating processed foods, and you’re not getting all your nutrients, not exercising properly, then you are not living in the body that you were meant to live in.” Her focus is on having women change the way they view their bodies through, mind, body, and nutrition. It is a really great book and has tools for everyone. I struggle to gain weight so it is helping me look at ways to work on that with exercise and better eating.

It was great to hear from someone who looks perfect that even she falls off the track and has to get back on it. She answered audience questions, and was funny and out-going. I really was glad that she was our special guest.

We also had a visit from the Discovery Channel’s host Jason Silva of Brain Games. He showed us how on brains respond to certain things and we don’t even know it. Some of the audience were called upon to do taste test blindfolded to see if their other senses would help them. They did pretty good.

Finally Rachael demonstrated for us the perfect way to make a Nutty Chicken Cutlet. The recipe can be found on her website and highlights of the show at

Valentine Day Craft

I really love crafting with my children, after having a month off from crafts we are set to start on our February crafts. That means we are getting ready for Valentine’s Day. When I think about a craft for Valentine’s Day I love to have the kids make a heart collage. I love this because we use all different types of materials to create our collage. This brings out the very creative side of your child. The children love working with the different textures and ideas to make their crafts unique. The main thing is it is simple and easy to do and will have your child happy for hours during these cold days spent inside.

What You Need:

1. A variety of paper materials. This would include construction paper, gift wrap, tissue paper (left over from the holidays), fabric, cardboard and foil.

2. Scissors-The child safe ones

3. Clear drying glue

4. Card Stock

5. Markers

6. Glitter

What To Do:

1. Have your child draw hearts in various sizes onto all the different types of paper you have. Encourage them to use different papers and make all sizes.

2. Then cut out the hearts that you have created.

3. Glue the hearts onto a piece of cardstock, this is a heavy duty type of paper. You should overlap the hearts putting different sizes on top of each other and turning them around so them at different angles on the paper. I always have my kids rotate the cardstock while they are doing this that way the paste hearts all the way around.

4. Finally it is time to be creative with the hearts you sprinkle glitter onto the glue to give a glue. Glitter is a favorite in my house.

5. Have the collages dry and you have perfect cards for Valentine’s Day

Allure Magazine/Maybelline NY Master Class

On November 20, 2013, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Allure Magazine/Maybelline Master Class. This special event was hosted by Sophia Panych and the brand’s makeup artist Gabe Almodovar.

What did we learn? We learned about what were the Spring Trends. Not only did we get to learn about them but we got to try out some of the Maybelline’s long lasting makeup.

So what are the Spring Trends:

Orange Lipstick-This was recreated using Electric Orange and Vibrant Mandarin which just had the right look
Metallic Smokey Eyes-As seen by Gucci this involved using Tatoo metal in Gold Rush 65.
Artsy Eyes
Bronzed Skin
Bedazzled-This was going crazy with the jewels but it made an impression
White Shadow-Use a shimmery white shadow in the mix as to make it blend in.

Sprint NYC Event & Mom Central

I participated in program on behalf of Mon Central Consulting

On November 13, 2013, I was given a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Sprint and the tools and resources that they have available to help manage children’s technology usage. Learning from the Internet to safety using the cell phone.

The wonderful staff at Sprint hosted us in group in which we learned about upcoming ventures such as Sprint Spark. Sprint Spark is essentially an enhanced LTE service that will enable smartphone users to hit “unprecedented speeds” of between 50Mbps and 60Mbps. Sprint showcased around 1Gbps this morning. The service will enhance video and other bandwidth heavy apps. The rollout is starting in New York. Sprint Spark is a combination of advanced capabilities, like 1x, 2x and 3x carrier aggregation for speed, 8T8R for coverage, MIMO for capacity, TDD for spectral efficiency, together with the most advanced devices offering both tri-band capability and high-definition voice for the best possible customer experience.

I also had the opportunity to talk to the staff regarding prepaid phones and plans with two companies that are associated with Sprint-Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile. It was great to learn about these low cost phones and plans. Have you ever had your phone on its last charge and you need to make a call, this is a great backup phone to have. You can use it for calls and texts, you kids would be able to have this phone and you will feel safe and secure. It is also great for you to have. I was on the bus recently and my phone was out of charge and I needed to call for my cab and I used my Virgin Mobile phone. People on the bus said what a great idea. We don’t have chargers all over the place to charge phones, so having this backup phone is a great idea.

I learned so much from this event.

I put these insoles into my boots and NO LIE, my feet did not sweat, did not ache, no blisters from walking, no issues at all. We walked MILES around the city that day and I got home and took my shoes off and felt NOTHING.
